Methodology
Prices and charts
- Crypto prices, market caps and 24h changes: CoinGecko API, cached for a few minutes.
- Stock prices, charts, heatmaps, screener, fundamentals and technicals: official TradingView embed widgets. Hodlia does not store or alter this data; it may be delayed.
- Crypto Fear & Greed: alternative.me.
Coin and stock of the day
Coin of the day is chosen automatically once per Helsinki day from CoinGecko data (largest 24h move among large non-stablecoin assets, with trending as context). Stock of the day is an editor's pick when set, otherwise a rotation through our written intros. Neither is a recommendation.
Trending news
- Every 30 minutes we read public RSS headlines from reputable financial and crypto publishers, regulator press releases (SEC), Google News and Reddit hot lists.
- Headlines about the same event are grouped. A story ranks higher the more distinct outlets cover it and the more recent it is. Syndicated copies count once, and opinion and listicle headlines are skipped.
- We never republish article text. Each story links to the original publisher with credit.
- Stories labelled Auto-summarised are short briefs written by a language model in our own words, using only facts that appear in at least two linked sources. Before publishing, each brief is checked automatically: no quotations, no run of eight or more words copied from a source, and every number must appear in a source. Briefs that fail are not shown.
Hodlia's own data
- Buzz Score: each time the news index runs, we check which coins (top 150 by market cap) and Nasdaq stocks we cover are named in each headline, by name or ticker. Short or ambiguous tickers (e.g. LINK, NEAR, ONE) count by name only. An asset scores one point per distinct outlet per day. 7-day score = sum of the last 7 days. Risers compare with the previous 7 days and need 14 days of data. Crypto is compared with CoinGecko prices; stocks link to TradingView charts only.
- Track record: the Coin of the day stores its CoinGecko USD price when picked; the table compares it with the current price. It describes the past, not the future.
- Readers' favourites: anonymous weekly totals of detail/versus page views and opt-in watchlists, de-duplicated per reader per day with a daily-rotated salted hash. Shown from 5 readers.
- Weekly poll: one vote per reader per ISO week. We store the vote counts, the BTC price (CoinGecko) when the week's first visitor loads the poll, and the Fear & Greed value (alternative.me). “Actual” compares that price with the next week's starting price. Shown from 20 votes.
- Everything started collecting in November 2026; pages say “collecting data since …” until there is enough history. Charts can be downloaded as PNGs that carry the Hodlia logo and source.
