Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the site and investing basics. What is Hodlia.fi?
Hodlia.fi is a free website that explains crypto-assets and Nasdaq stocks in plain language. You'll find prices and charts, short intros to individual coins and stocks, guides, a glossary, side-by-side comparisons and a few simple tools. The site has two sides: Stonks for stocks and Crypto for crypto-assets.
Who publishes Hodlia.fi?
Hodlia.fi is published by Pistepoint (Business ID 1926544-7), which is also the responsible editor. Intros and guides are written by the Hodlia.fi editorial team. The quickest way to reach us is by e-mail: contact@hodlia.fi.
Is Hodlia investment advice?
No. Everything on the site is general information and education. We give no personal recommendations, price targets or buy/sell signals, and Hodlia is not an authorised investment firm. Investing involves risk and you can lose the money you invest. Read more in our disclaimer.
Do I need an account, and does it cost anything?
No account is needed and the site is free to use.
Where do the prices come from, and are they real-time?
Crypto prices, market caps and 24-hour changes come from CoinGecko and are cached for a few minutes. Stock prices and charts come from TradingView widgets and Yahoo Finance and may be delayed. The crypto Fear & Greed index comes from alternative.me. Prices are not suitable for trading decisions that depend on the exact second. Details are in our methodology.
How are the coin and stock of the day chosen?
The coin of the day is picked automatically once a day (Helsinki time) from CoinGecko data: the largest 24-hour move among large assets that are not stablecoins. The stock of the day is an editor's pick when one is set, otherwise a rotation through our written intros. Neither is a recommendation.
Are the articles and data checked?
Intros and guides are written by our editorial team, and the main sources are linked. Prices and market data come from third parties and may be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Trending headlines always link to the original publisher. Short news briefs written by a language model are labelled Auto-summarised and are checked automatically against at least two linked sources before they are shown. If you spot an error, e-mail us the page address and we'll fix it.
Does Hodlia earn money from affiliate links or ads?
Not at the moment. Hodlia currently uses no affiliate links, shows no ads and has no advertising or affiliate partners, so we earn nothing from the exchanges, brokers, books or products mentioned. If that changes, our disclosure page is updated first and every affiliate link and ad will be clearly labelled.
Does Hodlia use cookies or track me?
Hodlia sets no advertising or tracking cookies. We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and only produces aggregated statistics. Your theme, currency, watchlist and quiz streak are stored in your own browser (localStorage) and are not sent to us. See the privacy policy for details.
How does the watchlist work?
Tap ☆ Watch on any coin or stock page and it appears on your watchlist. The list is saved only in this browser, so it disappears if you clear your browser data and it doesn't follow you to other devices. While the watchlist tab is open you can turn on browser alerts for 24-hour moves of 5% or more. Syncing by e-mail and e-mail alerts are not in use yet.
How does the “What if” calculator work?
In the What if calculator you pick a coin, an amount and a date within the past year. It looks up that day's price and today's price from CoinGecko and shows what the amount would be worth now. It describes the past and says nothing about the future.
Is there a newsletter?
Not yet. If we launch one, we'll announce it on the site.
What's the difference between stocks and crypto-assets?
A share is part ownership of a company, and its value is tied to the company's business and earnings. A crypto-asset is a digital token whose price depends mainly on demand, the network that uses it and how it's regulated. Crypto-assets are usually much more volatile, and they are not covered by investor-compensation or deposit-guarantee schemes. The glossary and guides explain the basics.
I'm a beginner. Where should I start?
Start with the guides: for example investment risk basics, what a stock or an ETF is, and dollar-cost averaging. A good rule of thumb: understand what you're buying, spread your risk, and never invest money you can't afford to lose.
How can I report an error or contact you?
E-mail contact@hodlia.fi. For corrections, please include the page address. We read every message and usually reply within a few working days, but we can't give personal investment advice.
